Episode
#1 - Tim KrekelAmericana
Tim has enjoyed success on many levels:
He’s earned acclaim by writing hit songs for numerous artists,
toured the States and Europe a few times, and collaborated live
and in the studio with many performers. He also found time to
record several critically acclaimed albums of his own prolific
brand rock and roll tunes that are as about as infectious as they
come.
"Beauty," scheduled
for April release, spans The Coal Men's full range of capabilities,
from delicate acoustic stylings to straight-out rock, with a touch
of country twang that hints at the band's Southern roots. Most
of all, it's a collaboration of talents. In the past year, longtime
friends Coleman, Ray and Hitch brought on friends - and seasoned
performers - Chris Frame (Son Volt) on guitar and Jen Gunderman
(The Jayhawks, Dag) on keyboards. Together, the five perform with
the assurance of musicians who've spent many a long night together
- "one of Music City's strongest, nerviest rock acts," according
to Tennessean music critic Peter Cooper.
Rough Edges is a bluegrass group
with an emphasis on musical talent and entertainment. The band
has a combined experience of nearly 100 years of playing music.
They like to think of themselves as musicians who play great music
the way people remember it. They truly try not to sound like anyone
else. Thus, putting the band's own grassy spin on each tune!
Episode
#4 - X Miss America's
with Ab the FlagmanAmericana
X Miss Americas is a mix of blues, country
and rock-n-roll. Ab can be found singing, sliding and jiving with
X Miss America's thoughout the Southeast. Driven by passion, country
singer/songwriter Ab the Flagman’s rootsy, yet velvety, baritone
twang takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster ride. A multitalented
artist, Ab expresses feelings through words and music like no
other. Yet his haunting, longing tones are reminiscent of the
old style southern Memphis greats -- with an occasional smattering
of Native American Indian influence.
Doug and Telisha Williams embody the true
Southern songwriting tradition. Playing what they call Fuel Injected
Folk, this husband and wife duo hail from the Blue Ridge Mountains
of Virginia. Their roots are real, their words are true, and their
energy is contagious.
All of the members of Ponty's Camper have
played music accross Kentucky since way before the turn of the
century. Ponty's Camper was formed to bring a unique form of Kentucky
hillbilly music to the rest of the world. The members wanted to
create a band where the music is Uniquely Kentucky, by blending
rock and roll influence with old time traditional mountain music.
Episode #7 -
GiGi Dover and the Big LoveFunky,
Southern Rock & Blues
Oct. 10 at 9 PM, repeat Sat. Oct. 13
at 9 PM
Gigi is a soulful, southern songstress,
a brilliant songwriter and a breath of fresh air when she takes
the stage to deliver the goods. Gigi Dover is the real deal. Her
roots are evident in every facet of her music. She offers up a
healthy dose of southern mystique that can only occur naturally.
Thru imagery and melody, Dover weaves sonic warmth, mystery, charm
and even a bit of humor into her music, then delivers it with
the passion, conviction and presence of a veteran rock chic.
Formed in the summer of 2003, Beaconwood consists of three friends
who share a love for acoustic music. The Greensboro, NC trio
is composed of Eric Robertson on mandolin and lead vocals, Bennett
Sullivan on banjo and harmony vocals, and Ryan Stanford on guitar,
upright bass, and harmony vocals. From
their first live gig at the Lindley Park Coffee Shop in 2003,
appreciative crowds have enjoyed their youthful energy. The
group has twice been invited to play at Merlefest- the largest
Americana music festival in the world. With
their roots planted firmly in bluegrass, they constantly explore
other genres of music, including jazz, rock, and blues.
The sound of the music draws strongly from bluegrass, but blues,
country and folk influences all come together to achieve the end
result. If that result should mean that you dance all night with
a bottle in your hand then, in our eyes, we have done our job.
That being said, perhaps another mission of the band is to keep
alive the music that is quickly disappearing in today’s fast-paced,
superficial society.
